With a population of over 250 million people, Indonesia is certainly a very big market and great potential to maim. The structure and the population of Indonesia is now dominated by the digital generation, the generation Y and Z generation (aged under 35 years), with a total of about 135 million of the total population.
This generation is a potential target e-commerce business. The main characteristics of the digital generation is the ability and consumption habits in using the technology and adaptability to technological developments and the Internet.
IDEA + SWA + MARS
Taking the initiative to conduct research on e-commerce market in Indonesia and held a seminar entitled awards and Indonesia E-Commerce Award 2016.
This was regarded as a strategic move to help businesses understand and gather accurate information, as well as an appreciation for the industry.
For start-ups and other related industries, research is expected to provide information to determine the steps in the process of market entry.
Research Objectives and awards / Award
More specifically, the things to be achieved in the study - seminars - publications - and these awards are:
- Measure the market size of e-commerce business in Indonesia at the moment and how big the market potential for the future.
- Knowing the perception, understanding, and the readiness of the Indonesian consumer to business e-commerce as well as transactions or online shopping.
- Knowing the needs and behavior of consumers in Indonesia in shopping and transacting online.
- Provide and give informed business-related e-commerce to business, consumers and related industries.
- Provide appreciation to business e-commerce in order to continue to innovate in developing the business and managing the business.
Research methodology
This research was conducted through a descriptive research, with face to face interviews with a structured questionnaire. Respondents in this study is Indonesia's population aged 13-55 years from the ABC class segment (households with regular expenses per month from USD 1.5 million) that has an Internet connection and the research took place from May s.d June 2016.
The sampling method in this research is by multistage random sampling to measure matters related to population (market size, market share, etc.) and purposive sampling to determine the specific things, such as shopping behavior and the behavior of the transaction.

This study was conducted in eight cities in Indonesia with the number of samples for each city as follows, namely:
