Jakarta, 8 November 2018 - The quality of talents in Indonesia's digital economy industry is still in a developing phase. Not only is the duty of the government, but it is also one of the focuses of the Indonesian e-commerce association, idEA, as an industry player. idEA Works, which is held by e-commerce associations, is one form of embodiment and support for IDEA to improve the quality of talent in Indonesia's digital economy industry and eliminate gaps between talent and business people in Indonesia.

"IDEA Works is a series of activities in the form of workshops and discussions between e-commerce industry players in Indonesia, both with campuses and also with companies that need quality human resources talents, who are able to develop the digital economy industry in Indonesia," said Ignatius Untung, general chairman of idEA. Untung added that IDEA Works wanted to bridge the gap between Indonesia's young talents and the needs of human resources in Indonesia's digital economy industry.

Further explained by Untung, that idEA works itself is a medium for e-commerce industry players to share talents needed in the future of Indonesia's digital economy world and how to become an individual who can develop both personally and become an enabler of the development of the world economy digital itself. "The contribution of human resources is indeed one of the main things besides the development of the technology itself. Businesses develop, products change, so idEAlly their talents must also develop, "said Untung. 

Following the research conducted by Google, AT Kearney & Amvesindo in 2017, the digital economy industry sector has occupied the top three investment positions in Indonesia, after the oil and gas mining industry. Realizing this, the Indonesian Government will encourage the development of a digital economy through the basis of industry and electronic commerce (e-commerce). Of course, with data validation like this, individuals who have the understanding and mastery of communication information technology (information and communication technologies / ICT) are needed. Not only that, the data released by The PPRO Payments and e-Commerce Report 2018, recorded Indonesia as the highest e-commerce growth country in the world, with a fantastic figure of 78%. This data is a basis for economic industry players that there is a basic need for quality talents who are ready to compete with imported talents, amid the incessant foreign investment in Indonesia's digital economy industry.

Sofian Lusa, Chair of the Human Capital Development Division of IDEA, revealed the results of IDEA's research in the field of company employment, which stated that many key roles in the digital economy industry were difficult to find and manage. This can be seen from the high turnover rate in a company in a related industry, the difficulty of finding the best talent in the industry, so that market competition is quite fierce because the best young talents prefer to work in unicorn companies that can provide large salaries and unlimited facilities. 

"There is a large gap in the world of work that needs to be resolved. As part of Indonesia's digital economy industry, we are committed to building bridges to reduce the gap between industry and talent, "Sofian added. Further explained by Sofian that there are 87% of high school graduates who choose a course without a fundamental reason. 36% of the number chosen for the department was only based on interest in the department. Whether later the department can bring them to the right and appropriate work, that is a number priority. "This is a result of contextless learning in Indonesia. The end result, most university graduates in Indonesia are placed as post-graduate graduates or mediocre graduates. This is also one of the reasons for the open unemployment rate of tertiary institutions in Indonesia in the first semester of 2018 reaching 800,000 people, "Sofian added.

The gap in human resources in Indonesia's digital economy industry is also triggered by a lack of insight into young talents regarding jobs in this business sector. The IDEA Works program is one form of commitment from IDEA in the Implementation of Indonesia's e-commerce Roadmap - which is one of the government programs of President Joko WIdodo, namely the existence of a Formal Education Program for talent needs in the electronic-based trading industry.

The IDEA Works program will bridge educational institutions with prospective students and industry players with their talents to be able to exchange information, bring together interests and talents with the right education, so that later they will get the right profession, mainly to fill the scarcity in the digital economy industry.

Attended by fresh graduates, first jobber, and professionals to always be updated with the qualifications desired by the company and available job opportunities
