idEA: E-Commerce Tax Do not Just Shoot Marketplace

The Indonesian E-commerce Association (idEA) wants e-commerce tax imposition not only to target business actors in the marketplace, but also to those who trade through other Over-The-Top (OTT) service providers. "So there is equality for all electronic-based business actors," said Bima Laga, Chief of Tax, Infrastructure, Security of idAber id in the dialogue of the Hot Economy program at Berita Satu TV First Media on Friday (6/10).

idEA also reminded, nowadays marketplace become one of the official container for individual business actors and companies to trade.

So if the Directorate General of Taxes (DJP) imposes a tax per transaction in the marketplace, the government needs to consider the impact of the policy, which instead makes traders in the marketplace move and resume trading at OTT service providers.

"Therefore, idEA asks the government to be wise in setting tax rates for e-commerce actors. Especially now, the perpetrators of Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are being activated to transform the digital system. "

In addition, if the e-commerce tax rate is imposed too early, the calculated industry is still new and it takes time and support to grow it will be hampered. On the other hand, for playing field level, idEA fully supports the tax rate. In fact, local players are already paying taxes in accordance with applicable provisions and tailored to each Business Model.

idEA feels the need to hold a dialogue with the Ministry of Finance, especially the Directorate General of Taxation to find the best solution related to this problem. idEA hopes this e-commerce tax code is capable of capturing business dynamics that is very fast, capital-intensive, and sensitive to obstacles. So the formulation of comprehensive rules, clear, and put forward certainty, is what is needed.
