The New Chairperson of idEA and the Challenges of Indonesia's Digital Market Maturation

Bima Laga was once again trusted to serve as General Chair of the Indonesian E-Commerce Association (idEA) for the period 2022-2024. Bima was appointed as the General Chair of idEA through the General Meeting of Members on 20 September.

After leading idEA during the 2020-2022 period, Bima Laga's accountability report was well received by the participants of the General Meeting of Members. Bima is considered successful in bringing the association to a wider realm and having a significant influence on the growth process of the digital industry, especially e-commerce in Indonesia.

The leadership period of the man who also served as VP Corporate Affairs of Bhinneka was quite complicated because he had to bring associations and the digital industry through the Covid-19 pandemic crisis. Together with the government, idEA, under the leadership of Bima, has become a strategic partner in overseeing the implementation of the Proud Indonesian National Movement. As is known, Gernas BBI has succeeded in digitizing more than 12 million MSME players.

“The BBI Gernas is a big step in the journey of digital industry growth, especially e-commerce. More than 12 million MSME players who are onboard to the e-commerce platform show how big the influence of the presence of this industry in supporting Indonesia's digital economy, "explained Bima.

Not only Gernas BBI, idEA in the 2020-2022 period is also the government's partner in discussing various important policies, be it bills or government regulations, related to the needs of the digital industry. Some of them are the Personal Data Protection Bill, the Minister of Trade Regulation, the Minister of Communication and Information Technology, and many more.

Of course, it is not easy to accept the responsibility as the General Chair of idEA this period. Although the pandemic has begun to subside, the responsibility to continue the success of the digital industry helps the national economy beat the pandemic. One of the challenges that continues to be faced is the maturation of the Indonesian digital market to become stronger so that it is able to be independent as an economically sovereign nation. Good job, Mr. Bima Laga!
