idEAWorks Edu: Erasing Industry and Talent Gap in the Digital Sector

Jakarta, April 9, 2019 - When the world, including Indonesia joined in the tumultuous euphoria of the era of industrial revolution 4.0, the world of professionals and businesses turned out to face a problem that was quite alarming. The digital industry that is echoed will be one of the spearheads of Indonesia's economic growth, precisely the best lack of talent in this field.

Computers and internet networks that are increasingly familiar to the public, as well as the high number of smartphone users are apparently not followed by an increase in the number of professionals in the digital sector. For the long term, this will certainly threaten the digital industry in Indonesia.

The Indonesian E-commerce Association (IDEA) considers it important to educate the public regarding the potential offered by this industry in the present and future. In cooperation with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Education and Culture, IDEA held an IDEAWorks Edu event aimed at educating the public about the variety of professions and potential that could be developed in this industrial revolution 4.0.

Chairperson of IDEA, Ignatius Untung, saw a threat to the future of Indonesian youth if they did not immediately develop themselves according to the current needs of the digital sector. "There have been many professions that have been replaced by computer technology, if it does not immediately adjust, the future of young people is certainly at stake," Untung said explaining.

"This program aims to open the eyes of high school students, students, teachers, parents. Professionals such as data analysts, SEO specialists, social media managers, product managers, database administrators, behavior scientists, and many more are a new line of professional choices for the younger generation. "

On the same occasion, Assistant Deputy for Creative Economy Development, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Mira Tayyiba in her remarks appreciated the efforts made by IDEA to educate the public. "It is necessary to elaborate that there is a lot of potential that can be achieved for the future in the digital industry, not just being a youtuber," Mira said when opening IDEorkork Edu at The Kasablanka City Hall, Jakarta, Tuesday (9/4).

In the event, which took place on 9-10 April 2019, the figures from the digital industry have succeeded as professionals in this industry. These speakers even held important positions in well-known digital companies in Indonesia. Call it Wiworojati Ox, who is an Associate Vice President Marketing - Creative, Bukalapak. There is also Rezky Yanuar who is the Shopee Country Brand Manager, and Gaery Undarsa, TIket.com CO Founder & CMO, and many more.

idEA sees the magnitude of the threat posed by this industrial revolution 4.0. The educational process regarding the impact of industry 4.0 and future new professions may not stop. The reason is, behind all the excitement of the ease of life offered by the digital era today, there are so many of our children whose future is threatened if they choose the wrong department and work.
