The Victory of Local Products in the Digital Age

Jakarta, August 14 2018. In order to realize Indonesia's big vision to become Digital Energy of Asia 2020, the Indonesian E-Commerce Association (IDEA) held a series of events titled LOCAL GOOD which aims to provide education and share experiences from SME experts and practitioners online, for the sake of supporting the growth of the digital economy in Indonesia through developing the quality of Indonesian local products in order to succeed in the digital era. 

The Good Local Event was attended by more than 500 participants, the majority of whom were MSMEs in Indonesia. For three days the participants were provided with more than 15 material discussions about the online SME business enriched with experience from practitioners who are already qualified in the field of online business. 

IDEA organizes a mini expo that provides opportunities for service and service providers in the e-commerce ecosystem to get acquainted and build synergic collaboration with SME actors. In addition, there are product display areas of 50 SMEs that are qualified and able to compete in the international market. 

While with IDEA also held a National Seminar and Working Visit titled Strategies for Developing Digital Economy in the Regions through Collaboration on E-Commerce & MSMEs. The seminar was aimed specifically at policy-making officials at Provincial, District / City Government Offices. This event is in line with the goal of LOCAL GOOD, which is to help SMEs to market their products in the digital era. 

LOCAL GOOD and National Seminar held on 12 to 14 September at The Kasablanka. As a series of opening present, Chairman General IDEA, Ignatius Untung and Deputy Coordination of the Creative Economy, Entrepreneurship, and Competitiveness of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Mr. Mohammad Rudy Salahuddin.

 

In his speech, Ignatius Untung, Chairperson of IDEA conveyed the need for the nature of openness to technological progress in various aspects, especially in developing the economic sector with online-based trade. According to him, the digital economy not only can have a big impact on the progress of the Indonesian economy, but also opens up opportunities for the creation of Indonesia as the number 7 largest economy in the world by 2030. Mr. Mohammad Rudy Salahuddin also said that the government fully supports and encourages an increase in makers in the e-commerce sector in Indonesia.

National Seminar and Working Visit 

Considering the Government has a very important role in realizing the ideals of development through the digital economy, especially local governments that are directly involved with SMEs in the region and are very aware of the potential of regional economic development. Then in line with the LOCAL GOOD theme, IDEA is supported by the Ministry of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Areas, Ministry of Trade, and Ministry of Industry to organize national seminars and work visits to various major e-commerce titled Strategy for Digital Economic Development in Regions through Collaborative E-Commerce & MSMEs. 130 regional service representatives from provinces, districts, cities from all over Indonesia had the opportunity to discuss intensively with various stakeholders such as representatives from relevant ministries who have programs to advance MSMEs, e-commerce ecosystem business actors, and then proceed with looking directly at operational several large marketplaces such as Blanja.com, Bukalapak, Blibli and Shopee.
